| Hook: |
#8 to 12 standard or long shank |
| Thread | Black 6/0 |
| Tail | good pinch of fibres from one side of a black cock hackle |
| Rib | oval gold tinsel |
| Body | black dubbing or chenille |
| Body Hackle | other half of hackle |
| Tag | short piece of red wool |
|
Dress the hook. Strip fibres from one side of hackle feather and use some for the tail. Tie in at the bend of the hook the red tag, body material, the tinsel and the other part of the feather. Wind the thread forward on the shank. Now form the body of the fly, with either dubbing or chenille. Wind the hackle forward making only 3 or 4 turns. The tinsel is now brought forward making sure not to trap too many of the fibres. Bear in mind this fly should look untidy .A few turns of lead wire can be used if necessary. |
